New York City schools will be open Monday following weekend blizzard

NEW YORK — All New York City schools will remain open on Monday following the weekend blizzard, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Sunday.

De Blasio said the Sanitation Department will be working all day Sunday to clear the roads and make it safe for parents and students to travel.

He addressed the streets in Queens, where are a majority remain piled with snow. He assured crews will be in the borough Sunday to clear the roads.

Staff, parents and students are advised to leave extra travel time and encouraged the use of mass transit to get to schools.

It will be more difficult to park near the school perimeters because of the snow, deputy school chancellor Elizabeth Rose said during the news conference Sunday.

Schools’ custodial staffs were clearing the sidewalks throughout the weekend in preparation for Monday’s opening.
