Hello, my name is Caitlin Rakyta and I am originally from the northwest corner of Connecticut. I majored in Fashion Merchandising and Business at Marist College, and I am currently working on a Masters of Science in Education at St. John’s University.
I moved to Queens in 2011 and immediately fell in love with the diverse communities within the borough. I spent 3 years in the fashion industry developing women’s apparel and knew that I was not fulfilling my passion for education and helping others. In joining the New York City Teaching Fellows, I began my journey working to provide academic opportunities for students, and I am thrilled to take part in providing these opportunities to students in my favorite borough. I am driven by the belief that all students can achieve, and look forward to working tirelessly to help them do so. In my spare time, I can be found spending time with friends, family, and my dog, Lucy, streaming TV shows on Netflix and downloading podcasts for my daily commute.
