Will my child be eligible for Yellow School Bus service?

The office of Pupil Transportation is the only entity with the power to determine and provide which type of transportation your child will receive. Please visit their website for more information: http://www.optnyc.org/

What afterschool options are offered at The Emerson School? 

Our school’s offers the following options:

CHAMPS Program – Tennis, Soccer, Basketball and others (these sports are not taught throughout the year or all at once). The program takes place during mornings and afternoons.

Arts and Literacy After School Program – It is open to all Emerson Scholars and runs from 3 PM – 5:30 PM (Monday – Thursday) and 3 PM – 4:30 PM on Fridays. Dinner is offered. Applications can be picked up at the school’s main office.

What is the school’s uniform? 

Our school’s uniform consists of a blue polo with the school logo (top right corner), khaki pants and black shoes or sneakers. The gym uniform is a gray t-shirt with the school name (center) and gray pants.

What type of breakfast and lunch will my child receive?

What time does school starts/ends?

The Emerson School opens its doors at 8:15 AM. Students take their breakfasts and later at 8:50 AM are escorted out by their teachers to start the day.

School ends at 3:10 PM

What door they use to enter and exit?

Students enter the building through the steps leading to the cafeteria (108th Street, just before entering the playground area).

Students are dismissed by the door leading to the playground area (109th Street).

What’s the best way to stay informed on school activities?

Each month all students receive a calendar and a newsletter outlining all upcoming events.

Memos and flyers about school activities and events are backpacked home with students as well.

How do I contact my child’s teacher?

Teachers can be contacted via Pupilpath, Department of Education email, and by calling our main office. 

How can I get involve with the school?

There are countless opportunities to become involved in our learning community. There are monthly Parent Teacher Association Meetings, School Leadership Team Meetings, Parent Focus Group Discussion Meetings, Parent Workshops, etc.

During the school year parents are encouraged to attend many of the family events that take place before and after school; Family Reading Night, Family Game Night, Math & Literacy Night, etc. 

Your school is to far away from home. How do I request my child to be transferred to another school?
