Congratulations! Welcome to the Emerson School family

Dear Parents and Students,

Congratulations! Welcome to the Emerson School family.  We welcome you to a new exciting journey. We are here to support you in every possible way.

Let me start by introducing myself.  My name is LaJuan C. White and I am the new and very proud founding principal of The Emerson School.  I am excited about all of the new possibilities this new school year will bring and I look forward to working with each parent as we collaborate together orienting ourselves and discovering the endless educational opportunities for our children.

Our Mission: Our school seeks to create a stimulating learning community that inspires all students. Students will be provided with a curriculum that emphasizes experiential learning, character development and prepares them for future academic and professional endeavors. Our school will consist of stakeholders who are active participants in creating an environment that promotes collaboration, high expectations and prepares our students to be independent thinkers and life-long learners.

We are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and respected among The Emerson School community.

We are hosting an Open House on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at The Emerson School located at 108-35 167th Street, Queens, NY  11433 on the MS 8 Campus.

Please be advised that The Emerson School is a uniform school.  The dress code for our students is a blue Emerson School polo shirt or a blue button down chambray shirt with khaki pants, skirts, skorts or knee length shorts.  Students must wear a belt.  The purpose of the uniform is to encourage students to “dress for success” and to come to school properly prepared for participating in the educational process. More information about how to obtain uniforms will be given during the open house.

We are having a bridge program for all new students to introduce them to staff, review school policy and procedures, test students to create individual education plans, and to build school culture and community as a team.  The bridge program will be held at The Catherine and Count Basie Middle School-IS72 located at 133-25 Guy Brewer Blvd, Jamaica, New York 11434 on July 1st, 2nd and 3rd from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Please make every attempt to send your child to this orientation.

We are extremely happy to open this inaugural school year with students and families that will be setting the bar.  Thank you for entrusting your most precious possession to us.  We look forward to working together in providing your children with a world class education.
